Soprano

The soprano ukulele (21” long) was the only size that existed for 20 or 30 years, after the first immigrants from Madera, in Portugal, brought the Machete de Braga to Hawaii. The Machete was a wooden instrument with steel strings that looked much like the ukulele of today, but was much harder to play. Hawaiians strung them with gut strings, and tuned them like a guitar, making them much easier and more fun. Mele brand soprano ukes are entirely handmade out of solid tonewoods, and are the best-sounding, best looking and easiest to play in their price range. Coming soon; limited edition Mele Special Deluxe sopranos, crafted to standard of museum-quality cosmetics and incredible playability. ***Please note*** Due to the handmade nature of our instruments, ukuleles may vary due to differences in tone woods, characteristics in the wood grains etc. Every ukulele is absolutely unique and a representation of the exact model you are buying. Your ukulele may not be identical to the one pictured. It will, however, be the same model.
