Mele Redwood Top Koa Back & Sides Double-hole Tenor-4 String

We've discovered that redwood makes for an extremely nice-sounding ukulele top. Being a slightly softer wood than mahogany, it has a very rich, warm tone with good bass response, yet it still possesses a crystalline high-end sweetness reminiscent of koa.

The combination of a redwood top with our proprietary double soundhole design brings out the best of both; the slightly louder volume and punchier midrange of a 2-hole uke is perfectly balanced by the warmth and sweetness of the redwood top, and the koa back and sides provide a bit of extra resonance, all making this one of the best-sounding tenor ukuleles you'll ever hear. It looks quite beautiful, too!

Mele Port Orford Cedar Top Koa Back & Sides Tenor 4 String

This beautiful-looking and beautiful-sounding 4-string tenor has a top made of rare and richly resonant Port Orford Cedar, and Big Island koa wood back and sides. The back is book-matched figured koa, lovely to look at and tonally an excellent complement to the cedar top, imparting a crystalline clarity to compliment the top's warm fullness.
The mahogany neck has an ideal profile, neither thick and "clubby" or overly slim, and feels great in the hand. It is reinforced with a 1/4" steel truss rod for added stability (common on guitars but unusual on a uke). The ebony fingerboard, nut, bridge and binding add both a luxurious touch and an extended life expectancy, and allow us to offer the Mele lifetime warranty. (See our website.) Mele's proprietary 18-to-1 geared die-cast tuners ensure ease of tuning, precision and stability and the setup by master luthier Michael Rock guarantees great action and intonation. This is an instrument for any ukulele lover, professional or not, and will give great reward and satisfaction for generations to come!

Mele Redwood Top Koa Back & Sides Tenor-6 String

We've been making small quantities of redwood-topped ukuleles since we started out some 20 years ago, and we still never tire of hearing customers rave about how great they sound. Redwood is a softer wood than mahogany or koa, and therefore has a rich, resonant quality to its lower notes, yet still preserves the sweet, shimmering high notes that make koa so sought-after.

This particular instrument combines the virtues of both woods, offering depth, warmth and crystalline sweetness with a slightly subdued midrange that makes it easy to listen to for long periods of time without "ear fatigue". This uke will provide great joy to both performer and listener for the foreseeable future, sounding better and better the more it's played, in spite of its reasonable price. A fantastic instrument for a performer or any serious player!
