The Mele koa top mahogany back & sides soprano ukulele has been one of the most popular of our handmade solid wood ukulele models for 15 years. There are good reasons for this:
The soprano, or “standard” sized ukulele (typically 21″ long) was the first size to be constructed and, for many years (from 1879 into the 1920s) was the only size available. The very first “ukes” were made of koa wood, indigenous to Hawaii, but when manufacturers on the Mainland (such as Martin, Gibson, Washburn, Regal, Harmony, etc.) started to build ukuleles they made almost all of them out of mahogany. These were wonderful-sounding instruments and are highly valuable and sought-after to this day.
The Mele mahogany soprano is almost an exact replica of a Martin.
